Our Veterinarians

Dr. Sara Horton was born in Rochester, NY, and then raised in San Diego, CA. She attended Ross University, and ended up in Cincinnati after finishing her clinical year at Purdue University. She came to West Side Animal Clinic in 2002, and then purchased the clinic in 2012. She shares her home with her husband, 2 teenage daughters, 3 dogs- Noodle, Tortilini, and Elsa, and 4 cats- Minnie, Stumpy, and Charlotte, and Queso.

Dr. Gary Dickerson is a Columbus, OH native, and began working for a veterinarian from 8th grade until graduation from The Ohio State's College of Veterinary Medicine in 1976. He has a varied career in both academia and private practice, and as a practice employee, partner, and owner. He and his wife, Kathleen have 2 grown children and 2 grandchildren. They are also the obedient subjects of 2 cats. We sure enjoy his quirky sense of humor, and he is one smart cookie!

Dr. Angela Haltom is originally from Indiana, and graduated from Purdue University School of Veterinary Medicine in 2004. She has a special interest in denistry. She currently lives in Batavia with her husband, Erik, and her daughter. They share their home with 2 dogs, Anna and Waylon, and a cat, Sally.

Dr. Schroeder went to Miami University for Chinese Education and vet school pre-requisites, then headed to Ross University, and finished at LSU. She enjoys ophthalmology, internal medicine, and clinical pathology. Outside of work she loves to play tennis and basketball, biking, paddleboard, and scuba diving. She shares her home with her husband Ben, 3 dogs- Leroy, Lou, and Waffles, and bearded dragon, Fizz
Our Care Team

Debbie has been with the clinic since 1976! She is our Lead Technician, and THE "go to" person for anything and everything here, and we can't imagine this clinic running without her! Debbie is a graduate of Badin High School, and lives in Hamilton. She has a husband, Les, and her son, Luke, plus her pets, Bob, and Star.

Maria started with the clinic in 1988. She is a graduate of Fairfield High School and studied at Morehead State University. She is involved with Fairfield Alumni Association and she and her husband are big Ohio State fans. Maria lives in Fairfield with her husband, Jeff. They have 2 grown children, 4 grandchildren, and dogs named Dino and Otto.

Christy began working at the clinic in 1997. She is a graduate of Hamilton High School, and currently resides in Hamilton with all her furbabies- 2 dogs, Tiger Woods and Philo Bedo, 5 cats, and her very understanding husband, Harry!

Cortney is a graduate of Preble Shawnee High School and lives in Camden with her husband and daughter. They have 4 dogs- Bella, Bruce, Bobby and Ziggy, and 2 cats, Nala and Nova.

Karly lives in Oxford with her family and is a 2020 graduate of Talawanda High School. She is currently a student at Miami U, with plans to attend Veterinary College to fulfill her dream of becoming a veterinarian. She has a dog named Rex, and a cat named Luna. Karly enjoys music, horror movies, traveling, and animals.

Paula lives in Monroe and has 2 young sons. She is a graduate of Mason High School and Wright State University, with a degree in Criminal Justice. She has a fondness for black cats, and enjoys cooking, being a sports mom, and Halloween. She has a dog named Buddy, and 4 cats- TP, Kindle, Dallas, and Whisper, and a skink named Carlos.

Zach lives with his family in Hamilton. Zach graduated from Homeschool in 2019. Working with Animals has aways been his dream. He came on with us to help with the new boarding facility in October, and is now a veterinary assistant as well. Outside of work, Zach enjoys spending time with family playing board games and video games. He has a cat named Kraken.

Hailey is a student at Hamilton High School, and has worked part time for us since Jan, 2019. She enjoys spending time with family and friends, and traveling. Hailey plans to attend Miami U after graduation in 2020.

Tori is a graduate from Hamilton High School and currently lives in Hamilton. She has been with the West Side Animal Clinic since 2015. She has 2 cats, Marie and Luna. Working with animals has always been her dream! She is currently enrolled in a Vet Tech program. Tori loves singing and everything Disney!

Jill is a veterinary assistant who has been with us for 5 years. She is a graduate of Edgewood High School and is currently enrolled in a registered Vet Tech program. She is also a very talented gymnast and dancer! Jill lives in Gratis and has 2 dogs, Jerry and Niko, and 3 cats, Puddenbag, Diddy, and Sausage.

Missy is a graduate of Ross High School, and lives in Hanover Township. She plans to attend Vet Tech School to further her career in the vet medicine field. Missy has enjoyed volunteering at our local animal shelters, and enjoys the outdoors.

Alaina is a 2022 grad of Talawanda High School and is currently enrolled in the Penn Foster Vet Tech Program. She lives in Hamilton with her family, has one dog named Ezra. They raise chickens for egg production, meat chickens, and show them at the fair. In her free time, Alaina enjoys music, playing volleyball, and likes the outdoors and sports.

Lauren was born and raised in Hamilton, and is a graduate of Hamilton High School. She graduated from Brown Mackie College in 2011 as a Registered Veterinary Technician. Lauren lives in Hamilton with her husband and son. In her free time, she enjoys spending time with her family, friends, and pets.

Sierra is a graduate of North College Hill High School and completed the Veterinary Technician Program at UC Blue Ash in 2015. She lives in Hamilton with her fiance and 2 children. They have 3 dogs, Dakota, Jackie, and Krypto, and a cat named Elliot. In her free time, Sierra loves spending time with her children.

Shaunda was born and raised in Hamilton, where she lives with her boyfriend and 3 boys. She enjoys being outside when it’s warm and having movie nights with her kids. She has 2 dogs, Dozer and Kash, and 2 beta fish, Patrick and Lovebug.

Paige is an alumnus of Miami University with a bachelor’s degree in Cultural Anthropology. She grew up with her family raising Siberian Huskies. In her free time, Paige loves to research, paint, and play the bassoon. She lives in Oxford with her partner, and an orange cat named Kyo, who thinks he is a dog.
Our Mascots

Jack is our honorary Lobby Manager and loves all the pets coming into the clinic. You can usually find him begging for treats or taking his cat naps behind the front desk.

Wayne is a text book scaredy cat. His favorite pastime is watching the birds outside at the feeder, or watching youtube cat tv. He may be shy, but once he is comfortable with you, he is the sweetest!

Better known as “Hissy Missy”, she is one of a kind. She has a little attitude, but can be very sweet when she wants something, and has no problem telling us to leave her alone.
